Tuesday 26th June - Katherine to Litchfield NP

Katherine Gorge

Katherine 2nd Gorge NT
We managed to wake up in time to get on the 7:00am breakfast cruise on Nutmiluk Gorge.  Breakfast was served as the dawn broke and we cruised the first gorge.  We then had a short walk past the cataracts to the 2nd gorge where we boarded another boat.  There are indigenous artworks high on the gorge walls in this area.

The 2nd gorge is really spectacular with sheer sides and incredible geology.  This cruise only goes to the end of the 2nd gorge so we returned back to the first boat then the jetty.  By this time some canoeists where venturing out, but we didn't have time for this - next time maybe.

During the cruise we had noticed a lookout high on the top of the gorge wall so we climbed up there for a spectacular view before driving to our next destination, Litchfield National Park.  This was another tedious drive via Pine Creek and Adelaide River then into the park all the way to Wangi Falls.
