Joel's Birthday!
Had a Skype link with Nicole for Joel's 1st birthday - 6:30 in the morning for us. Joel was a bit confused but pointed at us and seemed very pleased with the whole thing. Nathan gave us an impromptu concert with his latest tune from piano lessons. Lovely to see and talk to them all.
The good news is that after a couple of false starts, John managed to locate a suitable wheel to put on the car so we were able to leave Kununnura at about midday and reach the entrance to the National Park before nightfall [which is soon after 5:00pm]. The wheel is from a Nissan Navara, which is the wrong 16" daimeter, but with an oversized second hand tyre it works just fine and we were lucky to get away with a cost of only $150. Given that we had no choice we could have been charged a lot more.
There is a newly set up campsite at the start of the 54km unsealed road into Purnululu, also known as the Bungle Bungles. We stayed one night, they stored the caravan for one night and then we came back and stayed a further night. We found the campsite extremely disappointing and overpriced. Glad to leave them.
