Saturday 23rd June - El Questro to Lake Argyle

Back to the Caravan

Emma Gorge, El Questro WA

We packed up the tent early and went for a walk up Emma Gorge.  Very picturesque.

There is a program in place to try and exclude cane toads from the gorge as they will seriously alter the ecology, including probably making the endangered northern quoll extinct. Cane toads have been seen in the Kimberley but not in this gorge yet.  As the gorge is quite narrow a mesh fence has been erected across the width which leaves the only penetration points the track in and the creek.  Some measures are being put into place to trap the toads at these points but it was unclear what they are.

After picking up the caravan from storage on Kununurra Showgrounds and on the recommendation of several people we drove to Lake Argyle to stay at the camp site there instead of in Kununurra.  Before leaving though I collected the mail from the previous campsite we had stayed as there was some lovely pictures from Amelie.  Thankyou Amelie they are now on my art wall behind the cooktop!

We arrived mid afternoon and John immediately set to work cleaning the car which must have weighed an extra few kilos with all the bull dust plastered over it. I spent most of the afternoon in the laundry catching up on washing.
