Sunday 3rd June - Around Katherine

Enjoying the tropics

John relaxing at Katherine camp
Blue faced honeyeaters at camp
John's back was still sore this morning so we had a lazy morning for him to rest.  The temperature is perfect, mid to high twenties and the camp is lovely with lots of trees and birds.  I took the opportunity to catch up on the laundry and to clean the caravan inside and out.

Katherine Gorge NT
In the afternoon we went to Nitmiluk [Katherine Gorge] to see what we might do when John's back is better.  Canoeing and swimming are off at the moment as there are several 'freshies' [freshwater crocodiles] in the gorges so the Park authorities are not allowing anyone in the water until the crocs have been rounded up and removed elsewhere.

As we will be passing through Katherine again on the way south, we have decided we will treat ourselves to a breakfast cruise at that time.  This cruise goes into the first two gorges and because it leaves at dawn there is plenty of wildlife to spot.
