Sunday 10th June - Purnululu NP

Breakfast with the birds

Camp breakfast
After a chilly night in the tent we enjoyed breakfast surrounded by the birds.  Apart from 3 members of staff, we were the only people within several kilometres so the night had been very peaceful.  During the night we heard dingoes howling for the first time.  They weren't that close, but it's a very eerie sound.

We made a good early start to avoid the heat of the day and walked the northern end of the park.  There are two walks, Mini Palms Gorge and Echidna Chasm.  Both are beautiful but Echidna Chasm in particular was absolutely stunning.  There are some tight squeezes to get into the chasm which is narrow with almost vertical walls each side of about 180m in height.  We timed it just right so the sun shone into the floor of the chasm.  Magic.

After lunch we drove the rough road out of the park and arrived back at the caravan about an hour before nightfall, set up got ready for a quick getaway on the morning.
