Friday 29th June - Wangi Falls to Darwin

First traffic lights in a while

Magnetic Termite mound, Litchfield NP, NT
Cathedral Termite mound, Litchfield NP, NT
On the way out of Litchfield NP we visited an area renowned for termite mounds which are all lined up with a north /south orientation and a blade like construction.  They are known as magnetic termite mounds and they cover a comparitively small area.  All the other mounds in the park and elsewhere seem to be of the cathedral type.  These are roughly cylindrical but with deep indentations on all sides.

Black buzzard, Territory Wildlife Park, Darwin NT
We stopped in at the Territory Wildlife Park at Berry Springs on the way to Darwin.  This is an excellent showcase of top end Australian native animals, including nocturnal ones that are usually hard to see in the wild.  Most of the animals are kept in large natural settings.

Arriving in Darwin was a bit of a shock.  Although by no means a large city it seemed very busy after so long in the outback.
