We put the caravan in storage at Mt Isa then set off for Lawn Hill NP, also know as Boodjamulla NP, which is in the Gulf Savannah and a long way from anywhere else. This was to be another camping experience for us but at the last minute we decided to upgrade to one of the permanent tents on the campsite as it wasn't too badly priced. I'm glad we did this as the campsites were all in amongst the trees, there was no grass, just dirt, and the place is very cold at night.
We went via Gregory Downs station and bought some fuel, then went over the Gregory river onto even more dirt roads. There is absolutely nothing out there except cattle stations, it is very flat and the scenery quite monotonous.
Lawn Hill is an oasis on the desert. There are high escarpments through which has worn a single deep gorge. The gorge is spring fed with limestone rich water and is an incredible shade of green. Quite warm too, about 25 degrees. The gorge is very deep, passes over two sets of falls, then flows out onto the plains as the Gregory river.

We set up our camp kitchen on the deck outside the tent to cook a meal. We had fresh food in the esky, but as we were unsure if any refrigeration would be available the rest of the trip was tins and packets.
