John had booked the car into the Nissan dealership in Darwin for a 20,000km service. There were a number of issues with it, including the wheels being out of alignment and these were all fixed. However one serious issue came to light. We had noticed a clunking sound coming from the transmission when de-accelerating and mentioned it. The mechanic diagnosed a problem with the rear differential being sloppy and said the unit needed to be replaced [fortunately under warranty]. This is where things started to go wrong as the Nissan dealership claimed they had to get an approval for the work from Nissan head office.
In the meantime, we had taken the bikes and gone cycling in the Botanic Gardens and along the coastal bike track whilst the car was being serviced so were unaware of any of this until picking up the car at around 5.00pm.
